The 2018 Georgia State Minimum Standard Gas Code adopts the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC) as its technical foundation, supplemented by state-specific amendments from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA).
Scope and Coverage
The code governs the design, installation, maintenance, and inspection of fuel gas distribution piping, appliances, venting systems, and combustion air provisions. It applies to natural gas, liquefied petroleum (LP/propane), manufactured gas, and fuel mixtures.
Core Objective
To establish minimum safety standards protecting life and property from hazards associated with fuel gas storage, distribution, and combustion.
Georgia Amendments
- Precedence: DCA amendments supersede any conflicting provisions in the base IFGC text.
- Electrical References: General ICC Electrical Code references are replaced with the Georgia State Minimum Standard Electrical Code (the NEC with Georgia amendments).
- Specialized Fuel Systems: Certain areas—such as CNG motor vehicle fuel-dispensing facilities—are governed by the Rules and Regulations of the Georgia Safety Fire Commissioner and NFPA 52.
