ACI 530/530.1-11 and ACI 530/530.1-13 are joint consensus standards establishing legal building code requirements and specifications for masonry structure design and construction.
Overview
Each edition combines two mandatory standards—the Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (ACI 530/ASCE 5/TMS 402) and the Specification for Masonry Structures (ACI 530.1/ASCE 6/TMS 602)—along with their non-mandatory commentaries. They were developed by the Masonry Standards Joint Committee (MSJC), a collaboration among the American Concrete Institute (ACI), The Masonry Society (TMS), and the Structural Engineering Institute of ASCE. Both are written in legal and specification language for direct adoption by state and local jurisdictions.
2011 vs. 2013 Editions
- ACI 530/530.1-11 (2011): Introduced significant layout and technical updates, including recalibrated allowable stresses, provisions for infill masonry, and refined quality assurance and special inspection requirements.
- ACI 530/530.1-13 (2013): The final edition under the ACI 530 designation, offering minor refinements before management transferred to TMS 402/602 numbering.
