What's on This Practice Exam

The Texas Master Sign Electrician exam is 100 questions. You have 300 minutes to finish it. You need a 70% to pass.

This page gives you two ways to practice:

Free practice exam — 10 questions per attempt, pulled from a limited question pool. No cost, no commitment. Retake it as many times as you want. It's a solid way to get a feel for the question style before you put money on the table.

Full practice exam — 100 questions, 300-minute timer, just like the real thing. Questions are drawn from a pool of 322+ so you won't see the same exam twice. Every attempt is a fresh set. These questions are built around the exact topic breakdown the official test provider uses. This is the one you use when you're serious about passing.

Topics Covered

Here's what the exam actually tests — and what the practice questions cover:

  • Definitions, Calculations, and Theory — Foundational electrical theory, core NEC definitions, and the math behind electrical systems. Six questions on the real exam.
  • Electrical Services, Service Equipment, and Separately Derived Systems — The largest non-signs topic at 16 questions. Covers service entrance equipment, grounding, and separately derived system requirements.
  • Electrical Feeders — Three questions covering feeder sizing and installation requirements between the service and branch circuits.
  • Branch Circuit Calculations and Conductors — 15 questions on conductor sizing, overcurrent protection, and branch circuit load calculations.
  • Electrical Wiring Methods and Electrical Materials — Eight questions on approved wiring methods, conduit, cable types, and material requirements.
  • Electrical Equipment and Devices — 10 questions covering outlets, receptacles, switches, and other devices and their proper application.
  • Motors — Two questions on motor circuit requirements and protection.
  • Electrical Control Devices and Disconnecting Means — Four questions on disconnects, controllers, and control circuit requirements.
  • Electric Signs and Outline Lighting — The biggest topic on the exam at 36 questions. This is where most of your prep time should go. Covers sign installation, wiring, transformers, LED drivers, and NEC Article 600 requirements.

How This Practice Exam Helps

You don't pass this exam by reading through notes once. You pass it by working through questions until the right answers become automatic.

The full practice exam runs in timed mode — 300 minutes, 100 questions — so you know exactly where you stand before test day. After each attempt, you get a score breakdown by topic. If you're weak on branch circuit calculations or Article 600 sign requirements, you'll see it clearly and know where to focus.

Because the full exam pulls from 322+ questions, retaking it gives you new material every time. You're not memorizing a single fixed set — you're actually learning the content.

Start with the free exam. Get comfortable with the format. Then move to the full exam and put in real reps before you sit for the license.
