Study Tips

Practicing against a ticking clock is the best way to beat exam-clock anxiety. Use these timed tests to build your pacing, so you learn to move steadily and never burn too long on a single question. By test day, the format feels routine.

You're given plenty of time, so use as much of it as you need. Don't get rattled when other people finish early — finishing first isn't a prize. Work at your own steady pace and review your answers before you submit.

Several 25–30 minute sessions across the week beat one long cram. Spaced repetition moves facts into long-term memory so they stick through exam day.

On tough multiple-choice questions, rule out the options you know are wrong before choosing. Narrowing to two choices sharply improves your odds even when you're unsure.

Sample 1 — Chimneys and Vents

  • A. 3 feet
  • B. 10 feet
  • C. 5 feet
  • D. 2 feet

Correct Answer: B

IFGC 2015, Section 503.5.4 requires chimneys for medium-heat appliances to extend not less than 10 feet higher than any portion of any building within 25 feet. The 3-foot/2-foot-within-10-foot rule and the 5-foot-above-the-draft-hood rule in the same section apply to residential-type and low-heat appliance chimneys.
