Sample 1 — General Concrete
Question: You are a commercial concrete contractor planning a wall pour. Your project engineer asks where vertical construction joints in walls should be located when construction joints are not shown on the drawings. According to best practice, what is the maximum recommended horizontal length of a single concrete wall placement between vertical construction joints?
- A. 40 ft
- B. 20 ft
- C. 30 ft
- D. 50 ft
Correct Answer: A
According to The Contractor's Guide to Quality Concrete Construction, Chapter 7, a horizontal length of concrete placement greater than 40 ft (12 m) long in walls is not normally recommended for vertical construction joints.

Sample 2 — Layout and Excavation
Question: You are finishing the site work around a new commercial building where no lot lines or physical obstructions interfere with the grading. What minimum slope away from the foundation, and over what minimum horizontal distance measured perpendicular to the face of the wall, is required for the ground immediately adjacent to the foundation?
- A. 5 percent for 20 feet
- B. 2 percent for 10 feet
- C. 2 percent for 6 feet
- D. 5 percent for 10 feet
Correct Answer: D
IBC Section 1804.4 requires the ground immediately adjacent to the foundation to be sloped away from the building not less than one unit vertical in 20 units horizontal (5-percent slope) for a minimum distance of 10 feet measured perpendicular to the face of the wall. A reduction to a 2-percent slope (1:48) is permitted only where climatic or soil conditions warrant, and the 2-percent figure also applies to swales and impervious surfaces within 10 feet.

Sample 3 — Formwork
Question: The approximate unit weight of normalweight concrete used for formwork design calculations is ______ lb/ft³.
- A. 100
- B. 125
- C. 150
- D. 175
Correct Answer: C
Concrete is a heavy material, approximately 150 lb/ft³ (2400 kg/m³) for normalweight concrete (more than twice the weight of water). This value is critical for formwork design as it directly affects the loads that forms must support.

Your first attempt is an inspection, not a final grade. The results page breaks your score down by outline topic, so you can see which areas need work. Compare it with the real exam's passing score, 21 correct answers out of 30 scored questions, and keep practicing until you pass consistently.
- Answer what you know first and bookmark the rest. Our practice exams let you bookmark and come back.
- Work your bookmarks on the second pass.
- Keep your pace. The real exam works out to about 2 minutes 30 seconds per question.
- After each attempt, look up each missed question's reference in your book and read the section.
