What's on This Practice Exam

The Virginia Journeyman Electrician exam is 70 questions. You have 210 minutes to finish. You need a 70% to pass — that's 49 correct answers.

This practice exam gives you two options:

Free practice exam — 10 questions per attempt, pulled from a limited pool. No cost, no signup hassle. Use it to get a feel for how the questions are written and what the format looks like. Retake it as many times as you want.

Full practice exam — 70 questions, 210-minute timer, same format as the real thing. Questions are drawn from a pool of 386+ questions, so every attempt is different. You won't just memorize one set of answers and call it done. Questions are built around the exact topic breakdown used by the official exam provider.

Topics Covered

The Virginia Journeyman Electrician exam covers 24 topic areas. Here's what you're actually dealing with:

Licensing and regulations — Standards of Practice, Standards of Conduct, Renewal and Reinstatement, Definitions, Qualification for Licensure, and Revocation of Licensure. These cover how Virginia regulates electricians and what it takes to keep your license.

Electrical fundamentals and knowledge — General Electrical Knowledge and Electrical-Electronic Fundamentals. Expect Ohm's Law, basic circuit theory, and the practical science behind how electricity behaves.

NEC-based installation topics — This is the bulk of the exam. Branch Circuits (4 questions), Service and Feeders (5), Grounding and Bonding (6), Conductors and Cables (7), and Raceways and Boxes (7). Know your NEC here — these topics carry the most weight.

Specialized systems — Special Occupancies, Special Equipment, Electrical Signs and Outline Lighting, Motors and Controls, Utilization Equipment, Lighting, General Low Voltage Requirements, Communication Systems, and Fire Detection and Alarm Systems. Smaller question counts, but they still count.

Safety — 4 questions covering safe work practices and electrical safety requirements. Don't skip these.

How This Practice Exam Helps

You can read the NEC all day. That's not the same as working through exam-style questions under time pressure.

The full practice exam puts you in timed mode — 210 minutes, 70 questions — so you know what the real exam pace feels like before you sit down for the real thing. After each attempt, you get a score breakdown by topic. That tells you exactly where you're losing points so you can focus your study time where it matters.

Because the 70-question exam pulls from a pool of 386+ questions, you're not going to see the exact same exam twice. That's intentional. Memorizing answers doesn't work here. You have to actually know the material.
