Sample 1 — Administration General Regulations
Question: A low-speed ceiling fan that circulates large volumes of air is classified as a high-volume, large-diameter fan when its diameter is greater than what dimension?
- A. 5 feet
- B. 8 feet
- C. 7 feet
- D. 6 feet
Correct Answer: C
IMC 2018 Section 202 defines a high-volume, large-diameter fan as a low-speed ceiling fan that circulates large volumes of air and that is greater than 7 feet (2134 mm) in diameter.

Sample 2 — Appliances & Mechanical Equipment
Question: What is the minimum clearance to combustible materials required for exhaust ducts serving commercial (Type 2) clothes dryers?
- A. 3 inches
- B. 12 inches
- C. 1 inch
- D. 6 inches
Correct Answer: D
Per IFGC Section 614.9, ducts serving commercial (Type 2) clothes dryers shall have a minimum clearance of 6 inches to combustible materials.

Sample 3 — Duct Systems
Question: You are specifying PVC duct and fittings for an underground air distribution run beneath a slab. What is the maximum design temperature permitted for a system utilizing plastic duct and fittings?
- A. 250°F
- B. 150°F
- C. 125°F
- D. 120°F
Correct Answer: B
IMC 2018 Section 603.8.3 limits the maximum design temperature for systems using plastic duct and fittings to 150°F. Plastic duct is permitted only in underground installations and must have a minimum pipe stiffness of 8 psi at 5-percent deflection per ASTM D2412.
